Los Angeles Conservancy | L.A. Women's Landmarks Project

Featured in the Los Angeles Conservancy's Women's Landmark Wednesday series, Eliza Jane Franklin discusses her archival research on the Monday Women's Club, a historic Black women's organization in Venice's Oakwood neighborhood. Her research examines the club's role in community organizing, civic engagement, and Black women's leadership in Los Angeles, including the contributions of Etta V. Moxley, an early property owner and trustee of the clubhouse.

The feature is part of the L.A. Women's Landmarks Project, a collaboration between the Los Angeles Conservancy and the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Where Women Made History initiative. Franklin has since joined the Monday Women's Clubhouse Advisory Committee and presented her research at the historic Wilshire Ebell Theatre as part of the March 2026 L.A. Women's Landmarks Symposium. She continues to share her research through public presentations and contribute to efforts to preserve and interpret the history of the Monday Women's Club and Black women's civic leadership in Los Angeles.
